ATLANTA, Ga. – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the appointment of Kathleen Boyle Mathers as Director of the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA). Mathers follows Jennifer Rippner Buck who recently accepted a position as a Senior Policy Advisor with EducationCounsel, a law, policy, strategy, and advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. EducationCounsel is affiliated with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP.

“Kathleen has already demonstrated success at OSA and I am confident she will continue to help improve student achievement in her new role,” said Governor Perdue. “I appreciate Jennifer’s dedication and commitment to the students of Georgia. She has transformed OSA into an agency that policymakers, educators, the business community and parents can depend on for reliable and useful information on the progress we are making in Georgia’s schools.”

Kathleen Boyle Mathers has served as Director of External Relations for OSA since June 2007. Prior to that, she directed a federal statewide grant program at GaDOE to improve K-12 math and science teacher quality through partnerships between local education agencies and institutes of higher education. Mathers also led the education efforts of a children’s science center after teaching in DeKalb County Schools for eight years. She earned a Bachelors Degree from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame and Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. She and her husband Jonathan reside in Atlanta with their daughter Hadley.
