Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA  Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

 

Board of Early Care and Learning

Dixie H. Kinard, 61, Dalton, Ninth Congressional District Representative – Kinard is the relocation and marketing director for Coldwell Banker Kinard Realty, Inc. She serves on the board of directors of the Girl Scouts Council of Northwest Georgia and as a trustee for the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation.  She is a member of the Dalton Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Dalton, Dalton Public Schools executive leadership board and the Dalton Advisory Board, Girl Scouts.  Kinard earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.  She and her husband, Robert, have three grown children and five grandchildren. 

 

Board of Juvenile Justice

Stephen K. Simpson, 50, Macon, Eighth Congressional District Representative – Simpson is the president of Simpson-Jones Construction, LLC.  He served in the United States Army for twenty years where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Macon, director of the Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia and was the founding director of Crime Stoppers of Central Georgia.  He is a trustee of the Georgia Military College Foundation and a graduate of Leadership Macon.  Simpson earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University and master’s degrees from both Mercer University and the University of Southern California.  He and his wife, Susan, have two children.

 

Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities

Julia M. Lee, Ph.D., 48, Valdosta (Reappointment) – Lee is the associate dean of the Dewar College of Education and a professor of special education at Valdosta State University.  She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and a member of the ARC of Georgia.  She served as a member of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Board of Examiners Team and Effective Schooling Task Force.  Lee earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Florida State University and a doctoral degree from the University of Florida.  She has one grown son.

 

State Board of Veterinary Medicine

Henry E. Bohn, D.V.M., 70, Marietta – Bohn is an associate and veterinarian at the East Cobb Veterinary Clinic, Inc.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and a charter member of the Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic, the Animal Emergency Clinic of Sandy Springs and the Cherokee Emergency Veterinary Clinic.  He served as president of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, the Greater Atlanta Veterinary Association and the Cobb Veterinary Medical Society.  He is a member of the University of Georgia’s President’s Club and the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce Honorary Commanders.  Bohn earned a bachelor’s degree and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia.  He and his wife, Cindy, have two grown children.

 

Professional Standards Commission

Emily S. Jennette, 30, Marietta – Jennette is the Georgia Department of Education’s 2008 Teacher of the Year.  She is a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association and a member of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence.  She was named the 2006-2007 Marietta City Schools Teacher of the Year and Sawyer Road Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Jennette earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree from Kennesaw State University.  She is married to Brian Jennette.
