Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

 

ATLANTA Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

 

Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission

Dennis W. Ashley, M.D., 46, Macon, Trauma Physician representative – Ashley is the director of trauma and critical care at the Medical Center of Central Georgia and professor of surgery at Mercer University School of Medicine.  He serves as the chair of the American College of Surgeons Georgia Committee on Trauma.  He is a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Southern Surgical Association. Ashley earned a bachelor’s degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky and a medical degree from the University of Kentucky.  He has one son.

 

Kurt M. Stuenkel, 51, Rome, Hospital/ Trauma Center representative – Stuenkel is the president and CEO of Floyd Medical Center.  He serves as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and as a member of the Rotary Club of Rome.  He is a chairman of the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals, the Save Georgia Healthcare Coalition and the Voluntary Hospitals of America.  Stuenkel earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and master’s degrees from Georgia State University.  He and his wife, Lisa, have two children.

Ben F. Hinson, Jr., 55, Macon, Emergency Medical Services representative – Hinson is president and founder of Mid Georgia Ambulance Service.  He is a member of the Board of Economic Development, the American Ambulance Association, the Macon Rotary Club, the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council and the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University.  He is a founding member of the Georgia EMS Directors Association, the finance chairman of the 21st Century Partnership and chairman of the Georgia Board of Public Safety memorial committee.  Hinson earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University.  He and his wife, Vicki, have two grown children. 

Rhonda M. Medows, M.D., 45, Atlanta, At Large member – Medows is the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Health.  Prior to this appointment, she served as the first chief medical officer for the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services Region IV Office and as secretary for the State of Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration.  She practiced medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida and served as a corporate medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florida.  Medows earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine.

Kelli A. Vaughn, 33, Whigham, At Large member – Vaughn is the trauma coordinator at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital.  She is a Region 8 Emergency Medical Services council member and a certified emergency nurse.  Vaughn earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a master’s degree in nursing from Valdosta State University.  She and her husband, Danny, have two children.
