ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue today appointed Representative Jay Roberts (District 154) to serve as Assistant Administration Floor Leader in the Georgia House of Representatives. Roberts joins Representative Larry O’Neal (District 146) who serves as Administration Floor Leader and Representative Rich Golick (District 34) who serves as Assistant Administration Floor Leader. Roberts is filling the vacancy created by the election of Representative Mark Burkhalter to Speaker Pro Tempore.

“I am pleased to have Jay join my floor leader team in the House,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “Jay has earned the respect of his colleagues through his energy and knowledge of the issues, especially agriculture and the needs of rural Georgia. I look forward to working with him and the members of the House to strengthen education, expand economic development, and improve the lives of children in our state.”

Roberts, 34, represents District 154 (Telfair County, Irwin County, Portions of Ben Hill, Jeff Davis, Tift, and Wheeler Counties) and was first elected in 2002. He was recently elected as the Vice-Chairman of the House Republican Caucus, making him the sixth highest ranking Republican in the Georgia House. He was also appointed to serve on the Committee on Assignments by Speaker-elect Glenn Richardson. Roberts and his wife, Sarah, have two children.

“It is an honor to serve the Governor as a floor leader in the House,” said Representative Jay Roberts. “I look forward to working with him on a fiscally responsible and principled agenda for our state.”
