Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority

R. Micah Story, 37, Athens, GA, At Large Representative — Story teaches agriculture technology at East Jackson Middle School. He is also the director of Project Reaching Adulthood Prepared (RAP) and previously served on the Applied Technologies advisory board. Story is a member of the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, the National Association of Agriculture Educators, and is an alumni life member of Future Farmers of America. He was named 2002 East Jackson Middle School Teacher of the Year, 2002 system-wide Teacher of the Year, and is the recipient of the 2001 Milken National Teacher Award. Story is a graduate of Leadership Georgia and received his bachelor's degree in agronomy from Fort Valley State University. He received both his master’s degree in agricultural education and his education specialist degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Sherry, have two children.

 

Board of Directors of the Georgia Technology Authority

James D. Lester, III, 60, Columbus, GA, At Large Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) — Lester is senior vice president and chief information officer for Aflac, Inc. He previously founded and served as president of Portable Systems Technology, Inc. Lester was also a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Lester serves on the board of the Georgia Technology Authority, and was elected chairman in 2002. He also has served on the Governor’s Telecommunications Taskforce, and serves on the advisory board of the Georgia CIO Leadership Council. He was recently chosen as a finalist for the Georgia “CIO of the Year” award. Lester received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Emory University and a master’s degree in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Faye, have two children.

 

Council on American Indian Concerns

Sarah H. Hill, 63, Atlanta, GA, Scientific Seat (REAPPOINTMENT) — Hill is self-employed as an independent scholar in Native American history. She is a trustee of the Chieftains Museum in Rome, Georgia, and is a member of both the Georgia chapter of the National Trail of Tears Association and the Association of Georgia Historians. Hill serves on the editorial board of the Atlanta History Center and the editorial board of the Journal of Cherokee Studies. She and her husband, Harvey, have two children.

Thomas Henry Gresham, 52, Arnoldsville, GA, Scientific Seat (REAPPOINTMENT) — Gresham is President of Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. He is a member of the Society for Georgia Archaeology, the Southeastern Archaeological Conference, the Society for American Archaeology, and the Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists. Gresham is also a member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists. He and his wife, Gisela, have two children.

J.B. Jones, 72, Dahlonega, GA, American Indian Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) — Jones currently manages his family farming operation and provides consulting services to engineering firms and developers. He previously served as the Lumpkin County Commissioner. Jones served in the United State Army. He has served as president of both the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and the Lumpkin Historical Society. He is a charter member of the Dahlonega Rotary Club and is a member of the Law Advisory Council for the Georgia Mountains Area. He has also served as chairman of the Georgia Statewide Resource Conservation Development Commission and of the Chestatee-Chattahoochee Resource and Conservation Development Council. Jones received his associate’s degree in business administration from Truett-McConnell College. He and his wife, Leslie, have four children.

Marilyn Vance McGaughey, 72, Atlanta, GA, At Large Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) — McGaughey is active in the Vance Family Association, the Harrodsburg, Kentucky Historical Association, and is secretary of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Baron DeKalb Chapter. She received her bachelor's degree from Agnes Scott College and her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia. McGaughey has one son.

 

Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board

Pat Love, 46, Columbus, GA, Appraiser Representative — Love is sole proprietor of Realty Appraisal Services. She serves on the board of trustees for the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries and has served as a member of the board of directors for the Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity. Love has served the Appraisal Institute at the chapter, regional, and national levels, including as a member of the Region IX Residential Council, and will serve as chair of residential admission for the Atlanta Area Chapter in 2005. Love is a senior residential appraiser with the Appraisal Institute and is a member of the Georgia Association of Assessing Officials and Realty Multi-List, Inc. She received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Columbus State University and is currently pursuing her master's of business administration. Love is also a graduate of the certification school for assessors of the University of Georgia, and is a certified general appraiser in the state of Georgia.
