Appointment of Interim Sheriff for Fulton County Extended

ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue signed an Executive Order today laying the foundation for Fulton County to extend the appointment of the interim sheriff until December 31, 2004 due to the common concerns for the stability and best interests of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. Ted Jackson will continue in his role as Interim Sheriff until the end of the year. Text of the Executive Order is provided below.
Executive Order
WHEREAS: By mutual agreement, there being no objection by Sheriff Jacquelyn Barrett, and out of a common concern for the stability and best interests of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department; and
WHEREAS: There exists a common desire to bring certainty and an end to any and all future proceedings in this matter; and
WHEREAS: The Governor has previously issued an Executive Order pertaining to Sheriff Jacquelyn Barrett, dated July 23, 2004 and extended by Executive Order, dated September 17, 2004, vesting authority for the appointment of an interim Sheriff of Fulton County;
IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the legal authority vested in the State and County authorities authorizing the appointment of an interim Sheriff of Fulton County is hereby extended until and through the 31st day of December 2004.
