ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue released today $222,778 in deferred funds for the National Science Center in Augusta, Georgia.  With the release of these funds, the National Science Center (NSC) will receive $1.1 million in state funds for fiscal year 2005.

“After extensive discussions with Senators Don Cheeks and Randy Hall, and with leaders in the Augusta community, I am releasing deferred funds for the National Science Center,” said Governor Sonny Perdue.  “I would like to commend community leaders for their presentation of the information I had requested and want to applaud their success in raising additional funds by engaging the private sector.”

Governor Perdue cited the NSC’s partnership with the U.S. Army and the willingness of the community to seek private sector involvement as primary reasons for authorizing the appropriation.  The Governor will be working with the Department of Education to find new ways to promote the NSC’s programs to educators and students at both the state and national level.

“As we implement a more business-like approach to the state budget, I will continue to carefully review all state programs and determine appropriations based on the value of these programs to Georgia citizens,” said Governor Perdue.
