Governor Perdue Requests Expedited Damage Assessment of the Impact of Hurricane Frances on Georgia Agriculture

ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue formally requested today an expedited damage assessment of Georgia crops by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).  Hurricane Frances greatly impacted Georgia farmers and this assessment will begin the process toward a USDA Secretarial Disaster Designation. 

"Georgia crops were severely impacted by the high winds and excessive rains that accompanied Hurricane Frances," said Governor Sonny Perdue.  "I witnessed first hand the devastation during my trip to South Georgia yesterday.  Our farmers and the agriculture industry in this state need a quick review of this damage so that the assistance they need to overcome the impact of this storm can be delivered as soon as possible."

Damage assessment reports by local Farm Service Agencies will be reviewed by the Georgia State Emergency Board.  Preliminary state and local damage assessments began immediately following the storm and are ongoing.
