President Bush Nominates Governor Perdue to Board of Trustees of the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation

ATLANTA , GA - Governor Sonny Perdue has been nominated by President Bush to serve on the Board of Trustees for the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation for the remainder of a six-year term expiring November 5, 2005 . The nomination is contingent on approval by the U.S. Senate. The foundation was established by Congress in 1986 for the purpose of improving teaching about the U.S. Constitution in secondary schools. It is an independent agency of the Executive Branch of the federal government.

The Board of Trustees governs the foundation and consists of thirteen members. Twelve members are appointed for six-year terms by the President of the United States . The law specifies that two members of the Senate, two members of the House of Representatives, two members of the federal judiciary, one governor, two members of the general public, and three members from the academic community serve on the board.
