Governor Perdue Announces Appointments to State Boards and Commissions

ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments to State Boards and Commissions:

 

Children and Youth Coordinating Council

Adam Poppell, III, 42, Darien, Georgia, 1st Congressional District- Poppell is an Attorney at Law.  He previously served as the Court Service Worker for the Georgia Department of Children and Youth, a Probation Officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections, and Attorney at Law for White and Draffin.  Poppell currently serves on the board of Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, Inc. and is past Chairman of the McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from Mercer University.  Poppell and his wife, Lynn, have two daughters.   

 

Consumer Advisory Board

Barry Reid, 65, Tucker, Georgia, 4th Congressional District- Reid served as the Administrator of the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs from 1982-2002. In April of 2002, Reid retired from state government after 35 years of service.  He is Chairman of the Georgia Personal Financial Literacy Consortium and Director Emeritus of the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Metropolitan Atlanta. Reid received his undergraduate degree from Stetson University and a master's degree from Florida State University.  He and his wife, Ginny, have two sons.

 

State Board of Architects and Interior Designers

David Maschke, 48, Albany, Georgia, Architect Representative- Maschke is a registered architect, certified construction specifier, registered interior designer, and the Principal of Maschke Associates, David M.G. Maschke, AIA, CCS.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and serves as one of the AIA's national spokesmen on the repair and restoration of flooded structures.  Maschke's significant projects include the Albany Municipal Auditorium Restoration, the Dougherty County School Board Administration Building, and the Old Carnegie Library Restoration.  He received his undergraduate degree from the Tulane School of Architecture.  Maschke and his wife, Carolyn, have one child.

 

State Board of Pharmacy

Judy Gardner, 43, Alpharetta, Georgia, Pharmacist Representative- Gardner is presently the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Northside Hospital.  She previously managed the Clinical Pharmacy Services at Northside Hospital.  Gardner is a Fellow with the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and past President of the Georgia Society of Hospital Pharmacists.  She was awarded Preceptor of the Year by the Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 2002 and Pharmacist of the Year by the Atlanta Academy of Institutional Pharmacy in 1999.  Gardner received her undergraduate degree from Georgia College and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Mercer University School of Pharmacy.  She and her husband, Max, have two daughters. 

Pat McPherson, 60, Marietta, Georgia, Pharmacist Representative- McPherson is the Founder and President of Pharmacy Systems, Inc.  He was previously co-owner of A & M Drugs, served in the United States Naval Hospital as a Pharmacist, receiving two naval commendations, and served as Director of Pharmacy on the USS Ticonderoga, North Island Naval Base.  McPherson is a member of the Georgia Pharmacy Association and the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.  He received his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from Mercer University and a Juris Doctor from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law.  McPherson and his wife, Janet, have three children.
