Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding unanimous passage of his Child Protection Bill out of the House Judiciary Committee (Senate Bill 467):
"Clearing this hurdle has moved us one step closer to our goal of protecting our children from abusive caregivers, drug dealers and kidnappers. I would like to thank Senator Lee and Representative Golick, two of my floor leaders, for their diligent work on behalf of Georgia's children."
"I would also like to thank Chairman Bordeaux and all the members of the House Judiciary Committee for their unanimous support of this bill. I urge Chairman Smyre to place this important bi-partisan legislation on the House Rules calendar immediately so that the full House can act quickly to protect our children. Today, Georgia is the only state in the nation without a child abuse felony statute that includes criminally negligent behavior. The time to act is now."
