Announces Two Additional Appointments to the GRTA Board

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today his recommendation of Steve Stancil to serve as Executive Director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) and welcomed Jim Ritchey's continued service as Deputy Executive Director.

"Steve Stancil is a proven leader who will champion the metro region's transportation objectives of reduced traffic on our roads, more transportation options for commuters, and improved air quality," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Steve's leadership will encourage greater cooperation among metro Atlanta leaders, traffic and planning experts, and state officials to help us make the best possible transportation decisions."

During thirteen years in the State House of Representatives, 1988 - 2001, Stancil gained a wealth of experience in numerous policy areas including growth and development, transportation, and budgeting. He authored the first legislation to provide for the transfer of development rights to protect needed greenspace in fast-growing areas, and he also wrote the law creating the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority. As a member of the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee, Stancil took part in drafting the Planning Act of 1989, Georgia's first-ever statewide planning legislation.

"Steve will join a talented and experienced team at GRTA. Jim Ritchey, who has served as the Acting Executive Director for the last ten months, will continue serving as Deputy Executive Director. I want to personally thank Jim and the entire GRTA team for their hard work during this interim period," Perdue said.

Governor Perdue also announced two appointments to the GRTA Board - Jeff Anderson of Cumming, GA and Narender Reddy of Lawrenceville, GA. Both will be sworn-in tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in the Governor's Office. Stancil will be recommended to the GRTA Board tomorrow afternoon as Governor Perdue's choice for Executive Director during a 1:00 p.m. board meeting at GRTA headquarters.
