Governor Perdue Becomes First Vice Chair of Southern Governors' Association

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today was named First Vice Chair of the Southern Governors' Association. Governor Perdue was selected by his colleagues and previously served as Second Vice Chair. In August 2005, Governor Perdue will host the Southern Governors' Association Meeting in Georgia.

"I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues to serve in this position and look forward to working with them in the coming year," said Governor Sonny Perdue.

The Southern Governors' Association today completed its 69th Annual Meeting in Charleston, West Virginia and was hosted by Governor Bob Wise of West Virginia, 2003 Chairman of the Southern Governors' Association. Governor Mark Warner of Virginia, the incoming Chairman, will host next year's meeting in Richmond, Virginia.

Founded in 1934, the Southern Governors' Association is the oldest and historically largest of the regional governors' associations. The mission of SGA is to support the work of the governors by providing a bipartisan, regional forum to help shape and implement national policy and to solve state and regional problems. The association's membership is composed of the governors of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia and West Virginia.
