Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the death of Representative Ralph Twiggs:
"Everyone at the Capitol was saddened today when we heard about the passing of Representative Twiggs. In his many years in the legislature, he touched many lives and represented the people of his district faithfully.
"Representative Twiggs had a long and distinguished career. He was on the forefront of education issues and a strong supporter of free kindergarten for Georgia's children. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."
Representative Twiggs was born March 11, 1928 in Hiawassee, Georgia. He was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1973. He recently served Georgia's 8th House District located in the Northeast corner of Georgia, bordering both North Carolina and South Carolina. The district is comprised of Rabun, Towns, and Union Counties, and a significant portion of White County.
