Toth Reappointed Executive Secretary of Professional Standards Commission

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the reappointment of Dr. Floyd D. Toth as Executive Secretary of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GPSC).

"Our educators across the state rely on the Professional Standards Commission to maintain high standards for public school teachers and administrators," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Dr. Toth has demonstrated his commitment to high standards in education, and it is a privilege to reappoint him as Executive Secretary."

The mission of the GPSC is to set and apply high standards for the preparation, certification, and continued licensing of Georgia public educators. GPSC was created by the Georgia General Assembly as of July 1, 1991, to assume full responsibility for the certification, preparation, and conduct of certified, licensed, or permitted personnel employed in the public schools of the State of Georgia. GPSC is also responsible for the development and administration of teacher certification testing. GPSC handles the investigation, advisement, monitoring, and due process of cases associated with educator discipline.

Floyd D. Toth, Ph.D., 67, Atlanta, GA - Toth currently serves as the Executive Secretary for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and previously served as the Dean of the School of Education at Valdosta State University. Toth has a Doctorate in Vocational Education from the University of Missouri, a Masters Degree in Vocational Education from the University of Cincinnati, and a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from Eastern Kentucky University. Some of Toth's activities include the Board of Directors of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education and the Georgia Association for Partners in Education, Inc.
