Tan Appointed Chair of Asian-American Commission

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the appointment of Dr. Josephine K. Tan as chair of the Asian-American Commission for a New Georgia.

"The Asian-American Commission will be an integral part of the New Georgia," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Dr. Tan's proven commitment and extensive experience with the Asian-American community will undoubtedly serve the commission and the state of Georgia well."

The Asian-American Commission will focus on working with community organizations, local governments, and private businesses. It will also serve in an economic advisory role to attract international business and create jobs while also helping smaller, minority-owned businesses. The consulting function of the commission will provide valuable insight to policy making in areas such as healthcare, economic opportunity and education.

Dr. Josephine Tan, 53, Atlanta, GA - Dr. Tan is a senior corporate relations coordinator at Georgia Power, serving as the company's corporate liaison with the Asian American community. Tan holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Alabama and a bachelor of law degree from the National Chengchi University. Some of Tan's activities include serving as a chair of the board of the Chinese Community Center, chair of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of trustees of Leadership Atlanta. Tan and husband, K. J., have one child.
