Prepared Text of Governor Perdue's Independence Day Message
"As Georgians celebrate our nation's birthday on this Independence Day, we are thankful for our freedoms - and mindful of freedom's price. Independence Day is a time to gather with family and enjoy parades, cook-outs, and fireworks as we celebrate our blessings in this land of liberty.
We celebrate the American creed of equal justice, limited government and the rule of law.
And we give thanks for the defenders of our freedom - America's Armed Forces, past and present. Today thousands of Georgians are deployed around the world, defending our freedom in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
We join their families in praying for their safe return. Let's do all we can to support our military families.
And let's also make a special point today of telling a veteran or service member "Thank you" for making this Independence Day possible.
Thank you for listening. God bless Georgia - and God bless America."
