McLagan Announced as New Director of Communications King to Become Director of External Affairs

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue's Chief of Staff Eric Tanenblatt today announced Dan McLagan as the Director of Communications and chief spokesperson for the Governor's Office. McLagan previously served in these roles during the Perdue campaign and transition as well as the late Senator Paul Coverdell's re-election in 1998. Tanenblatt also announced that Press Secretary Kimberly King will move into the role of Governor's Director of External Affairs.

"Dan is an extremely talented individual with an extensive communications background," Tanenblatt said. "His understanding of the Governor's policy positions and his well-developed relationships with members of the media will serve the administration well."

McLagan, 36, served as Press Secretary or Communications Director for some of the most high profile political campaigns in recent memory, including Rick Lazio's 2000 Senate race against Hillary Clinton, Lamar Alexander's 1996 bid for President, John McCain's 2000 presidential run, Bob Taft's first race for Governor of Ohio in 1990, and Oliver North's 1994 U.S. Senate campaign in Virginia.

"With the addition of Dan to the staff, Kim's opportunity to lead our External Affairs efforts will be a real positive step as Governor Perdue continues to reach out to all Georgians," added Tanenblatt.

McLagan has also served as Press Secretary for the Nation Republican Senatorial Committee, Deputy Director of State Media for Bush-Quayle '92, Media Assistant for Bush-Quayle '88, and a publications writer and editor for the Agency for International Development during the first Bush administration.

"Governor Perdue has assembled a great staff, and I am excited to rejoin his team," McLagan said. "It is an honor to serve in his administration as we work to build the New Georgia."

Tanenblatt said McLagan's official start date is July 1.
