Atlanta - The following is a statement from Governor Sonny Perdue regarding the retirement of Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Tom Coleman:
"I want to extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to Commissioner Coleman for his leadership of the Department of Transportation. His leadership has contributed positively to our state's economic development and restructuring of the Department for increased productivity and efficiency.
"Along with the citizens of Georgia, the DOT Board, and the employees of the Department of Transportation, I wish him the very best in his retirement. His commitment to the people of this state is unquestioned and his dedication to public service will be missed."
Commissioner Coleman announced his retirement effective August 31, 2003 to Governor Perdue and State Transportation Board Members today. The Governor, Commissioner Coleman, and the DOT Board will work together through the end of August to ensure a smooth transition within the Department.
