Governor Perdue Appoints New Members to State Boards and Commissions

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue made appointments today to the State Ethics Commission, Board of Natural Resources, Georgia Lottery Commission, Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and the State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
Two appointments were made to the State Ethics Commission - Stephen B. Farrow of Dalton, GA and Jack Williams of Avondale Estates, GA.
Phyllis T. Johnson of Hazlehurst, GA was appointed to the Board of Natural Resources to serve as a member at-large.
Barbara Dooley of Athens, GA was reappointed to the Georgia Lottery Commission.
Three appointments were made to the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners - Jackson Craig Patterson of Perry, GA; James A. Anchors of Marietta, GA; and David A. Wren of Leesburg, GA.
Two appointments and one reappointment were made to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine. James A. Brett of Montezuma, GA and Needham Bryant Bateman, III of Dunwoody, GA are new appointments. Eugene T. Maddox of Cairo, GA was reappointed.
These appointments will give the State Ethics Commission and the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners required quorums.

I am confident that these appointees will serve the people of Georgia with distinction and will be good stewards of the public trust. "
Brief biographies of the newly appointed members are provided below:
State Ethics Commission
Stephen B. Farrow, 45, Dalton, GA - Farrow is a partner with the law firm of Minor, Bell & Neal. He is also currently Assistant City Attorney for the City of Dalton. He is a member of the Georgia Bar Association and State Bar of Georgia. From 1993 to 1996, Farrow represented Senate District 54 in the Georgia Legislature where he served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee. His civic activities include the Rotary Club of Dalton, Dalton State College Foundation, University of Georgia Gridiron Society, Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, United Way of Northwest Georgia Board of Directors, and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board of Directors. Farrow graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and graduated from the University of Georgia Law School. He and his wife, Carol, have two children.
Jack Williams, 46, Leesburg, GA - Williams is a partner with King & Spalding in Atlanta, GA. From 1995 to 2000, he was the Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia primarily prosecuting business crime and public corruption. Williams began his legal career with King and Spalding after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to attending law school, he earned a Masters of Business Administration from Cleveland State University. From 1978 to 1985, Williams played professional football with the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League and the Ottawa Rough Riders and Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Board of Natural Resources
Phyllis Thompson Johnson, 46, Hazlehurst, GA, Member At-Large - Johnson is co-owner of Thompson Hardwoods, Inc., a diversified hardwood and cypress manufacture facility. She also has over 20 years experience as a pharmacist. Johnson is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She and her husband, Stephen, have two children. They are active members of First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst.
Georgia Lottery Commission
Barbara Dooley, 63, Athens, GA - Dooley is the wife of Vince Dooley, Athletic Director and former Head Football Coach of the University of Georgia. Her civic activities are numerous, and have included the Clark County Mental Health Board of Directors, State of Georgia Mental Health Board, Scottish Right Classic Board Member, Camp Sunshine Board of Trustees, and American Heart Association Chairwoman. She is also a member of the Georgia Speaker Association and the National Speaker Association. Dooley received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Therapy and Mental Retardation and a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Auburn University. She and her husband have four children.
Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners
James A. Anchors, D.C., 61, Marietta, GA - Anchors opened Anchors Clinic of Chiropractic in 1969 in Dunwoody, GA. He is a member of the Georgia Chiropractic Association, the American Chiropractic Association, and the International Chiropractic Knights of the Roundtable. Anchors is a 1966 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. He successfully completed his pre-chiropractic requirements at West Georgia University in 1962. He and his wife, Barbara, are active members of Peachtree Presbyterian Church and they have two children.
Jackson Craig Patterson, D.C., 40, Perry, GA - Patterson opened a private chiropractic practice in Perry, GA in 1989. He also works with the Perry High School Athletic Director and Coaches on consulting and treating injured athletes. Patterson is a member of the Georgia Chiropractic Association, American Chiropractic Association, and the Parker Research Foundation. His civic activities include membership in the Perry Chamber of Commerce, Perry Rotary Club, and sponsor and coach in the Dixie Youth Baseball/Softball League. Patterson graduated from Middle Georgia College and received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Life University in Marietta, GA. Patterson and his wife, Rosemari, have three children and they are active members of Perry First Baptist.
David A. Wren, D.C., 42, Leesburg, GA - Wren opened a private practice in 1987, the Chiropractic and Sports Injury Center. There are two locations in Albany and Leesburg. He is licensed with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Georgia State Board of Examiners, and the National Board of Certified Chiropractic Sports Physicians. Wren is member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Georgia Chiropractic Association. His civic activities include the Rotary Club of Dougherty County, the Dougherty and Lee County Special Olympics, the Albany YMCA Board of Directors and the March of Dimes Board of Directors. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Life University in Marietta, GA.
State Board of Veterinary Medicine
James A. Brett, D.V.M., Montezuma, GA - Brett is currently the owner of the Macon County Veterinary Hospital in Montezuma, GA. He is also a veterinary advisor and consultant to the Monsanto Company. Brett graduated from the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, previously having served as President from 1998 to 1999.
Needham Bryant Bateman, III, D.V.M., 57, Dunwoody, GA - Bateman is the owner of Peachtree Animal Hospital, P.C. in Chamblee, GA. He graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary College. He and his wife, Joyce, have two children.
Eugene T. Maddox, D.V.M., 69, Cairo, GA - Maddox was originally appointed to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine by Governor Zell Miller. He opened Cairo Animal Hospital on July 1, 1963 and he remains active in general practice. Maddox graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary College in 1959. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Grady County and Cairo Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Patsy, have four children and 10 grandchildren.
