Governor Sonny Perdue Authorizes Reward For Information Regarding The Murder of Fulton County Police Officer Aaron Blount

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today sent a letter to Fulton County Police Chief George Coleman confirming issuance of an Executive Order offering an $8,000.00 reward for information regarding the murder of Officer Aaron Blount. The Executive Order states:

WHEREAS: On April 22, 2003, Officer Aaron Blount was shot and killed investigating suspicious activity while on duty in South Fulton County;

WHEREAS: The Fulton County Police Department has launched an intensive search for the unknown person or persons responsible for this heinous crime;

WHEREAS: There has been no arrest and so far leads have failed to identify any Suspects;

WHEREAS: Section 45-12-36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotation provides that the Governor of the State of Georgia is authorized, in his discretion, to offer, and cause to be paid a reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of any person who has committed the crime of murder or voluntary manslaughter, where the victim of such a crime was a law enforcement officer acting in the line of duty at the time of the commission of such crime;

Now, therefore, pursuant to the authority vested in me as governor of the state of Georgia, it is hereby

ORDERED: That a reward in the amount of $8,000 is hereby offered for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of any person or persons responsible for the murder of Officer Aaron Blount.
