Governor Perdue Swears-In New State Board of Regents Member

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today swore-in his first appointment to the Board of Regents (Board). Julie Hunt, widow of former Regent John Hunt, will represent the Second Congressional District. Hunt will complete the term of her late husband which expires January 1, 2004. The Board is comprised of 18 members; one from each of the state's congressional districts and five appointed at large. The Board oversees 34 educational institutions: four research universities, two regional universities, 13 state universities, two state colleges, and 13 two-year colleges.

"Appointing Julie to the Board of Regents is a fitting tribute to her late husband," said Governor Perdue. "As a former teacher and an experienced businesswoman, I am confident that she will serve the students of Georgia with the same dedication and commitment."

Julie Ewing Hunt, Tifton, GA, 2nd Congressional District - Julie Hunt, a native of Ashburn, Georgia, is a small businesswoman and former English teacher at Tift County High School in Tifton. She presently serves on the Georgia Economic Development Authority. Hunt was a former member of Governor Miller's Privatization Commission and former President of the Tift County Chamber of Commerce. In 1963, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Valdosta State University. Hunt has two children and seven grandchildren. She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Tifton.
