Governor Perdue Swears-In New State Board of Education Member

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue today delivered the oath of office to Brad Bryant, the newly selected member to the State Board of Education (Board) from the Fourth District. The Board is comprised of 13 members, each member from one of the state's congressional districts.

"The State Board of Education will be well served by Brad's extensive experience in education and his passion for Georgia's school children," said Governor Perdue. "Improving education requires a broad understanding of the many challenges facing education in Georgia and Brad brings that understanding with him to the board."

William Bradley Bryant, Atlanta, GA, 4th Congressional District - Bryant was first elected to the DeKalb Board of Education in 1990 and was re-elected to a fourth term in 2002. He has served as Chair of the DeKalb Board since 1996. Bryant is Chairperson of the Finance Committee and a member of the Community Relations Committee. Also, he is the former President of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and the National School Boards Association's Southern Region.

Bryant is on the Office of Education Accountability Report Card Committee, the Georgia Closing the Gap Commission and the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education. He is a member of Leadership DeKalb and served as the Chair from 1992 to 1997.

Bryant earned his bachelor's degree from Presbyterian College in South Carolina, a master's degree from the University of Georgia in business administration and a law degree from Mercer University. He is an active member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church. He and his wife Kay have two children, Benjamin, 22, and Katherine, 18.
