Career Public Servant Lonice Barrett Retires from State Government
Sid Johnson Succeeds Barrett as Director of Implementation
ATLANTA – Today Governor Sonny Perdue announced that Lonice Barrett, director of implementation, retired from state government effective November 30, 2006.
“Lonice Barrett represents the finest that state government has to offer. He is a model of dedication and integrity that every state employee should emulate,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “Throughout his distinguished career in state government Lonice has proven himself to be an effective and selfless leader. I am grateful for his service and his friendship. On behalf of the people of Georgia, Mary and I wish him and his wife Carol the very best.”
Barrett, 63, is a 36-year veteran of state government. He has served as director of implementation since August 2004. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office of Implementation, Barrett served for 34 years in state government with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). He served as DNR commissioner from May 1995 to July 2004. Barrett earned a master’s degree in education from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration from Georgia Southern University. He and his wife, Carol, have two children and three grandchildren.
Sid Johnson, 44, succeeds Barrett as director of implementation. Johnson has served as the deputy director of the Governor’s Office of Implementation since August 2004. Previously he was a partner and general manager of The Leadership Forum, an Atlanta-based leadership development firm. He also worked in the investment banking division of SunTrust Bank, managing fixed income portfolios. Johnson worked in Congressman Sam Hall’s Washington D.C. office, serving as a liaison to local governments. During the administration of Governor Zell Miller Administration, he served in the commissioner’s office of the Department of Corrections and as a division director with the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Leslie, have two children.
