ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Erk Russell:

“Mary and I join the people of Georgia in mourning the passing of Coach Erk Russell. He was a great Georgian and a leader of men. As one of the most successful coaches in the history of college football, Coach Russell became a national icon and a legend in his own time. He was an inspirational coach who motivated every player to give his best, not only on the field but also in life. I'm proud to have been one of those players. Thanks for the memories, coach.”
