Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

Board of Community Affairs

Nathan D. Dean, 72, Rockmart, GA, At-Large Member – Dean is the president of Nathan Dean Agency, Inc. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives and in the Georgia State Senate. Dean is a member of the Chamber of Commerce for Bartow, Haralson, Paulding and Polk Counties. He is a mason, a shriner and a lifetime honorary member of the American Legion. Dean attended Shorter College. He and his wife, Ann, have two grown children and one grandchild.

Board of Governors of the George L. Smith II Georgia World Congress Center Authority

Thomas “Tom” D. Bell, Jr., 56, Atlanta, GA, Member – Bell is the president and chief executive officer of Cousins Properties, Inc. He serves on the board of Emory Healthcare, Regal Entertainment Group, AGL Resources, Inc., the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and is vice-chairman for the United States Chamber of Commerce. He attended the University of Tennessee and New York University. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children.

Board of Trustees of the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia

L.C. “Buster” Evans, 49, Cochran, GA, Active TRS Member – Evans is the superintendent for the Bleckley County school system. He serves as president of the Georgia School Superintendents’ Association and is a member of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders. Evans is chairman of the Bleckley County Health Department, vice chairman of the Heart of Georgia RESA Board of Control and member and past president of the Rotary Club of Cochran. He earned an associate’s degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Valdosta State University and a doctorate degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children.

Civil War Commission

Robert “Ed” Shelor, 52, Milledgeville, GA, Member – Shelor is the chairman of the social and behavioral sciences department and an assistant professor of history at Georgia Military College. He served in naval intelligence positions and received the Navy Commendation medal, the Defense Meritorious Service medal from the National Security Agency and the Good Conduct medal from the U.S. Marine Corps. Shelor is a member of the Georgia Historical Society, the Organization of American Historians, the Society of Military Historians and the Georgia Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University and a master’s degree from Troy State. Shelor is in process of earning a master’s degree in history from Georgia College and State University. He and his wife, Analyne, have one child.

Jekyll Island Authority

Robert “Bob” W. Krueger, 65, Hawkinsville, GA, Member – Krueger is the president and chief executive officer of ComSouth Corporation. He is the chairman of the Middle Georgia Regional Development Authority and a member of the Hawkinsville Development Authority. He serves as the director and treasurer of the Georgia Telephone Association and chairman and director of United Pulaski. Krueger serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. Krueger and his wife, Carol, have three grown children.

Benjamin “Ben” G. Porter, 73, Macon, GA, Member – Porter is a partner in SGAP Inc and is the previous owner of Piedmont Communications Corporation. He is the chairman of the board for Filmworks USA, Inc., and is a member of the board of directors for Security Bank Holding Company. He serves as a member of the Georgia Board of Driver Services, the Board of Governors for the Mercer University School of Medicine and the Georgia Advisory Council for The Trust of Public Land. Porter attended Valdosta State University. He and his wife, Hazel, have one child.

Professional Standards Commission

Maria R. Bradley, 34, Chatsworth, GA, Administrator Representative – Bradley is principal of Gladden Middle School. She serves as secretary-treasurer of the Georgia Association of Middle School Principals. She is on the board of directors for the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders and the Georgia Middle School Association. Bradley serves on the executive committee of Affiliated Georgia School Leaders. She was awarded the 2006 Georgia Middle Level Principal of the Year and the 2005 Georgia Association of Middle School Principals Exemplary Leadership Award. Bradley earned an associate’s degree from Dalton State College, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree from State University of West Georgia and a doctorate in educational leadership from Argosy University. She and her husband, William, have one child.
