ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) Executive Director and state Chief Information Officer Tom Wade is leaving his post to accept a position effective September 1 at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.

“Tom Wade has been a dedicated public servant for more than two decades,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “I’m appreciative of his leadership, hard work and particularly his consensus building skills that helped launch major advancements at the Georgia Technology Authority.”

As a member of GTA’s management team since the department’s inception in 2000, Wade served first as the deputy executive director, and became the acting executive director in 2002 and became the executive director in 2003. He led the organization through several major initiatives to modernize the state of Georgia’s IT infrastructure, as part of Governor Perdue’s goal to make Georgia the nation’s best managed state. Under his leadership, GTA flawlessly relocated the state’s data center and computer operations to a modern facility meeting the industry’s highest standards. Wade also led the department to institute project management practices establishing better planning and higher project success rates throughout state government.

During his 26-year career in state government, Wade was the assistant and deputy commissioner of the Department of Human Resources (DHR), and served as a policy director for Governor Zell Miller.
