Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

 

ATLANTA Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.

 

 Georgia Public Defenders Standards Council

William C. Rumer, 57, Columbus- Rumer is an attorney and partner at Grogan, Rumer & Gunby LLP. He is a member of the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia, the Muscogee County Department of Family and Child Services and as president of the Columbus Bar Association.  Rumer is also a longtime foster parent and served on the Friends of Foster Care Board. Rumer earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Becky, have four children.

Alec L. Poitevint, II, 59, Bainbridge- Poitevint is the chairman and president of Southeastern Minerals, Inc. He serves as the director of the Georgia Agribusiness Council, chairman of the American Feed Industry Insurance Company and was former Federal Commissioner of Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin Commission. Poitevint earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Doreen, have two grown children.

 

Southern Regional Education Board

Erroll B. Davis, Jr., 62, Atlanta- Davis is the Chancellor of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. He is the former president and chief executive officer of Alliant Energy Corporation and WPL Holdings. He is a former member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago and a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Mellon University. He chairs the Audit Committee of the United State’s Olympic Committee Board.  Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He and his wife, Elaine, have two grown children.

 

Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission

T. Wayne Bloodworth, M.D., 62, Alpharetta- Bloodworth is the chief executive officer of Eagle TranSurface Systems. He formerly practiced gynecologic surgery and was a professor of gynecologic surgery at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Conrad Collins Gynecologic Society. Bloodworth earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and completed his medical training at Tulane University School of Medicine.  He also holds a master’s degree from Mercer University.  He and his wife, Linda, have two children.

 

Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District Governing Board

Bradley “Brad” N. Currey, Jr., 77, Atlanta- Currey is the former chief executive officer of the Rock-Tenn Company. He is a director of Brown & Brown, Inc and a member of the State Advisory Committee for water planning in Georgia. Currey earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University. He and his wife, Sally, have four grown children and ten grandchildren.

 

Rural Development Council

William “Bill” S. Cowsert, Jr., 48, Athens- Cowsert is an attorney with Cowsert & Avery. He is a Georgia State Senator representing the 46th district of Oconee, Clarke and Walton counties. He serves as the vice chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee. He served as president of the Athens Sertoma Club and the Clarke County Heart Association, and is a board member of the Athens Touchdown Club. Cowsert earned a degree from Presbyterian College and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Amy, have three children.

 

Jon G. Burns, 54, Newington- Burns is the owner of B&S Feed and Farm Supply. He is a member of the Georgia House of Representatives where he serves as the secretary of the Game, Fish and Parks Committee and the Governmental Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association, Effingham County Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Agribusiness Council. Burns earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and a law degree from John Marshall Law School. He and his wife, Dayle, have three children.

 

Sex Offender Registration Review Board

Angelynn “Angie” M. Holt, 55, Warner Robins- Holt is the director of special investigations at the Georgia Department of Public Safety. She is the owner and chief executive officer of Angie Holt Enterprises, Inc. She is a former special agent for the Georgia bureau of Investigation. She is a member of the Reidsville Airport Authority, Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia and the Board of Trustees for the International Association of Women Police. Holt earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Georgia Southern College. She and her husband, Charles, have one child.
