American Insulated Wire Plant to Create 250 Jobs in Coffee County
Wire and Cable Manufacturer will Invest $26 Million in New Southeastern Base of Operations
DOUGLAS, Ga. – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that after a multi-state site search, American Insulated Wire (AIW) will invest $26 million to open a new facility in Douglas, Georgia that will serve the southeastern United States. The new operation, AIW's first manufacturing facility in the Southeast, will create more than 200 jobs in the next two years in Coffee County . AIW plans to employ a total of 250 Georgians and increase its investment in the operation by its fourth year at the site. The company has committed to maintaining these jobs through 2017.
“We are delighted to welcome American Insulated Wire to our state, and honored that they recognize the value of doing business in Georgia ,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “ Coffee County has a proactive business climate and the community will be a great home for AIW.”
AIW is a manufacturer of electrical wire and cable products that includes control and medium voltage power cable, building wire, and portable and flexible cords, as well as telecommunication cables, electronic wire and cable and cord set products. Its products are used to help provide electricity to appliances, electrical tools and sporting complexes.
The company will convert a 340,000-square-foot existing facility in Coffee County , formerly used by Tecumseh Engine Manufacturing, into a highly automated wire drawing, stranding and extrusion production facility to produce wire and cable products for industrial and commercial applications. AIW will also construct a 100,000-square-foot addition to the building.
“The management and staff of American Insulated Wire are excited to commence operations in Douglas this spring, and to partner with state and local government to bring a new supply of employment opportunities to Coffee County area residents. We will strive to offer local area residents the best possible work environment, training and career advancement programs, and compensation and benefits package as an exemplary corporate citizen and business partner to the community,” said Bob Wheeler, president of American Insulated Wire.
“As our existing industrial base continues to grow, we are pleased with the diversification this company will bring to our area,” said JoAnne Lewis, president of the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce. “AIW will occupy a once-vacant building and create new job opportunities for the citizens of Douglas-Coffee County and the region.”
“AIW is a great fit for Georgia , especially the Douglas area,” said Craig Lesser, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, which worked closely with the community on the project. “I'm pleased we were able to move quickly and I look forward to a long-term, sustainable relationship that will contribute to the economic vitality of both AIW and the community.”
