Governor Perdue Orders Flags Lowered to Half Staff
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue today signed an Executive Order to lower flags to half staff on Monday, May 15, 2006, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day. Text of the Executive Order is provided below.
Executive Order
FLAGS ON STATE BUILDINGS LOWERED TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS: The Congress and President of the United States of America have proclaimed May 15, 2006, as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS: The President of the United States of America has called upon all Americans to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
WHEREAS: Thousands of Georgia’s bravest men and women, in varying capacities of law enforcement, answer the call to serve and protect their communities; and
WHEREAS: These courageous men and women safeguard our families and homes from threats of violence, crime and terrorism; and
WHEREAS: On Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to recognize and remember those who have answered this noble calling and made the ultimate sacrifice and honor those heroes who wear their uniforms and badges with pride as they protect the innocent and defend the rule of law; and
WHEREAS: We, as a grateful people, offer our thoughts, thanks and prayers to the heroes of law enforcement and their loving families.
NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE OFFICERS WHO SERVE, AND IN MEMORY OF THE OFFICERS WHO HAVE FALLEN, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the flags on all state buildings throughout the state of Georgia be flown at half staff on May 15, 2006.
