Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:
Georgia Board for Physician Workforce
J. Daniel “Dan” Hanks, M.D., 62, Rome, GA, Non-Primary Care Physician Representative (REAPPOINTMENT) – Hanks is a radiologist at the Rome Radiology Group. He served as a major in the Medical Corps for the United States Army, an instructor at the Medical College of Georgia and the chief of radiology service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta. He is a member and past president of the Georgia Radiological Society, a past member of the board of directors of the Medical Association of Georgia, a member and past chairman of the Medical College of Georgia Foundation and a member of the board of directors of the Rome Area History Museum. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Hanks and his wife, Adeline, have one child.
Gilbert “Gil” S. Klemann, M.D., 62, Albany, GA, Primary Care Physician Representative – Klemann is the senior and managing partner of Albany Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has also served as a major in the Medical Corps for the United States Army. He is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia and the Southern Medical Association. He is a former member of the American Medical Association, the American Medical Society of Vienna and the American Fertility Society. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the Citadel and a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Klemann and his wife, Elizabeth, have three children and two grandchildren.
E. Chandler McDavid, M.D., 51, Sandersville, GA, Primary Care Physician Representative – McDavid is the managing physician at Sandersville Family Practice Center. He practiced previously at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and Piedmont Hospital. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. McDavid and his wife, Terri, have three children.
Reuben S. Roberts, Jr, M.D., 61, Hawkinsville, GA, Primary Care Physician (REAPPOINTMENT) – Roberts is a physician at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, the Medical Association of Georgia and the Ocmulgee Medical Society. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a medical degree from the Universidad Autonomas de Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. Roberts and his wife, Deborah, have six children and three grandchildren.

Pamela S Bush, 53, Hephzibah, GA, Dental Hygienist Representative – Bush is a dental hygienist in two private practice dental offices in Augusta. She is a member of the Georgia Dental Hygienists Association, the American Dental Hygienists Association and the Central Savannah River Area Dental Hygiene Society. She earned a dental hygienist degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Bush and her husband, Michael, have two children and four grandchildren.

L. Craig Dowdy, 40, Marietta, GA, At Large Member – Dowdy is a partner with the law firm McKenna, Long and Aldridge, LLP. He served as manager of business and product planning at Westinghouse Power Systems. He is a member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Chamber Governmental Affairs Council. Dowdy is a graduate of the Coverdell Leadership Institute. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a law degree from Georgia State University. Dowdy and his wife, Neeahtima, have three children.
Board of Commissioners of the Judges of the Probate Courts Retirement Fund of Georgia
Janice L. Spires, 45, Bonaire, GA, Probate Judge Representative – Spires is a probate judge for Houston County. She is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Perry and the board of directors of the Combined Employees Credit Union. She has earned an associate’s degree from Middle Georgia College. Spires and her husband, Steve, have three children and two grandchildren.
Board of Commissioners of the Georgia Equal Opportunity Commission
William “Bill” H. Jones, Jr, 65, Martinez, GA, Member – Jones works with Command Uniforms by John, a supplier of uniforms to police, fire, and security organizations. He has developed, monitored and enforced equal opportunity policies for four companies and represented his employers before the Georgia Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Labor. He is a former senior vice president of human resources for a bank now part of Wachovia and provided consulting services through the Pritchard Group, Inc. and Human Resources Advisors and Services, Inc. He serves on the Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross and is a former board member of the University Health Care Foundation and the Lucy C. Laney Museum of Black History. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary. Jones and his wife, Margaret, have two children.

E. Pauline “Polly” Hale, 56, Jackson, GA, Rehabilitation Representative – Hale is the senior vice president of operations at Integrated Care Management, Inc. She served as the executive director at Gaston Loughlin, Inc. and as the director of managed care and catastrophic disability for the Georgia Board of Workers’ Compensation. She is a member of the Shepherd Center National Advisory Board, the Georgia Self Insurers’ Association and Kids’ Chance Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Florida. Hale and her husband, Forrest, have two children.

Anna “Miki” D. Thomaston, 29, Jesup, GA, Consumer Member – Thomaston is the area manager of C Bleach for Rayonier. She served as a shift superintendent and an operations engineer for Rayonier. She is a member of the Wayne County High School Advisory Committee and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is married to Jody Thomaston.
Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board
Patterson Toby Graham, Ph.D., 36, Athens, GA, Member – Graham is director of the Digital Library of Georgia at the University of Georgia. He worked as the head of special collections at McCain Library and Archives. He is a member of the American Library Association, the American Association for History and Computing, the Civil Rights Digital Library Initiative and the Mississippi Library Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and two master’s degrees and a doctorate from the University of Alabama. Graham and his wife, Suzanne, have one child.
Jamil S. Zainaldin, 58, Dunwoody, GA, Member – Zainaldin is the president of the Georgia Humanities Council. He is a former professor at Emory University, Georgetown University, Case Western Reserve University and Northwestern University. He is the president of the Georgia Association of Historians and on the board of directors of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education and the Friends of Georgia Archives. He is a former president and executive director of the Federation of State Humanities Councils and deputy executive director of the American Historical Association. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia and a doctorate from the University of Chicago. Zainaldin and his wire, Ingrid, have three children and two grandchildren.

Norma T. Edenfield, 70, Atlanta, GA, At Large Member – Edenfield is a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of Piedmont Hospital, the Vanderbilt Eye Institute Advisory Committee and the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation. She is also a member of the Governor’s Executive Center Fine Arts Committee. She attended Emory University. Edenfield and her husband, Jim, have three grown children and five grandchildren.
