Flags lowered to honor funeral of former First Lady "Lady Bird" Johnson
ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue signed an executive order today ordering all flags on state buildings and grounds lowered to half staff in honor of the funeral of Former First Lady “Lady Bird” Johnson. The former First Lady’s funeral is Sunday, July 15.
The Governor’s executive order is issued in conjunction with a proclamation by President Bush ordering flags on federal buildings and grounds to half staff. The text of the executive order is below:
Flags on State Buildings and Grounds Ordered Lowered to Half Staff
Whereas: The citizens of the United States mourn the death of former first lady, “Lady Bird” Johnson; and
Whereas: Mrs. Johnson was an environmentalist who worked to create a more beautiful America, and through her national campaign for beautification, became the inspiration for The Highway Beautification Act of 1965.
Now, therefore, in honor and as a mark of respect for the memory of Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Georgia, it is hereby
Ordered: That in conjunction with the Proclamation of the President of the United States of America, the flag of the United States and the flag of this state shall be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on Sunday, July 15, 2007, the day of her funeral, until sunset.
