Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today his appointments to the Cervical Cancer Elimination Task Force. The Cervical Cancer Elimination Task Force was created in the 2005 legislative session by Senate Resolution 165. The task force will produce two reports and then sunset on June 30, 2006. In addition to the five members appointed by the Governor, Representative Cecily Hill and Representative Michelle Henson, appointed by Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson, and Senator Don Thomas and Senator Renee Unterman appointed by Senate President Pro tempore Eric Johnson, serve on the task force. The Governor has designated Sen. Don Thomas to serve as chairman.

Cervical Cancer Elimination Taskforce
Stuart T. Brown, M.D., Atlanta , GA , --- Brown is the director of the Division of Public Health with the Georgia Department of Human Resources. He previously served as interim director and medical director for the DeKalb County Board of Health. Brown previously held positions at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as director of the Division of Injury Epidemiology and Control and as an associate director where he collaborated on local, national and international projects focused on sexually transmitted diseases. He has also provided over ten years of consultation, program development and research with an emphasis in East Africa and South and Southeast Asia . He received his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Cornell Medical School .
Jeffrey F. Hines, M.D., Atlanta , GA , Gynecologist Representative - Hines is an attending gynecologic oncologist with Southeastern Gynecologic Oncology and a clinical instructor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Morehouse School of Medicine. He served numerous positions with the United States Armed Services, including assistant chief for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, and was deployed during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Hines is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the National Medical Association. He received his bachelor's degree in science and his medical degree from Brown University .
David McIntosh, MD, Columbus, GA, Oncologist Representative -- McIntosh is the associate medical director and director for women's health services for the John B. Amos Cancer Center at the Medical Center of Columbus in addition to being the cancer liaison physician for the American College of Surgeons. He was previously an associate professor of gynecologic oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. McIntosh served as co-chairman of the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition and as chairman of the Women's Health Expo planning committee for the Muscogee County Physicians Foundation. He received his bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of Texas and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School .
Karen J. Minyard, Ph.D., Atlanta , GA , Georgia State University's Health Policy Center Representative -- Minyard is the executive director of the Georgia Health Policy Center where she leads the policy, research and technical assistance programs. She serves as an officer on the founding board of the Community Health Leadership Network and as an associate research professor in the School of Public Administration and Urban Studies at Georgia State University . She has experience with the state Medicaid program, both with design of a reformed Medicaid program and external evaluation of the primary care case management program. Minyard earned a master's degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a doctorate from Georgia State University .
William J. Todd, Atlanta , GA , --- Todd serves as president of the Georgia Cancer Coalition. He was the founding president of the Georgia Research Alliance, which created a partnership between the six research universities in Georgia, the business community and state government. Todd serves on the board of directors of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the board of trustees of the Georgia Tech Foundation and the University of Georgia Research Foundation . He earned his bachelor's degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University and received an honorary doctorate of science degree from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland .
