Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments.

Board of Economic Development

Robert "Bob" E. Shaw, 73, Rocky Face, GA, At Large Member - Shaw is the chairman and chief executive officer of Shaw Industries Group, Inc., a company specializing in the production and sale of carpet, rugs, ceramic, hardwood and laminate flooring for residential and commercial applications worldwide.  He has served with the company for 45 years.  He is a member of the Carpet & Rug Institute, a member of the board of trustees of the Dalton State College Foundation, a trustee emeritus of Berry College , and an elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton.  Shaw attended the University of the South. He and his wife, Anna Sue, have four grown children.

H. Doug Everett, 67, Albany , GA , Public Service Commission Member - Everett has served as a commissioner on the Georgia Public Service Commission since 2002.  He served three terms as a State Representative before his election to the Commission.  Prior to serving as a legislator, Everett served on the Albany Zoning and Planning Board of Appeals, the Board of Tax Assessors and three terms on the Albany City Commission, including two years as Mayor Pro Tem.  In 1974, he started the Southern Appraisal Company (now run by his son), which specializes in appraising large commercial and industrial properties.  Everett earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Georgia Southern University.  He and his wife, Janice, have three grown children and four grandchildren.

Joint Commission for the Recognition of Public Servants

Charles Commander “Chuck” Clay, 54, Marietta, GA, Chairman - Clay is a practicing attorney and partner in the law firm of Brock, Clay & Calhoun, P.C., a law firm specializing in corporate, governmental affairs, education and healthcare matters. Clay is a former assistant district attorney and county commissioner in Cobb County .  He served six terms in the Georgia State Senate from the 37 th District.  Clay is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina and earned his law degree from the University of Georgia . Clay and his wife, Sara, have five children.

Southern Global Strategies Council (an advisory council to the Southern Growth Policies Board)

Mary Brown Bullock, 61, Decatur , GA , Member - Bullock is the president of Agnes Scott College .  Previously, she served as director of the Asia Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington , D.C.   Bullock is a China specialist with a particular focus on the role of American medicine and science in China and on U.S.-China relations.  She chairs the China Medical Board of New York, Inc. and is a member of the National Science Foundation's Advisory Committee on U.S.-China Cooperation in Science, Policy, Research and Education.  Throughout the course of her career, she has received such honors the Elisabeth Luce Moore Visionary Leadership Award, the National Academy of Sciences Distinguished Service Award and the Agnes Scott Distinguished Centennial Alumna. She was ranked among the “top ten” SAIS faculty at Johns Hopkins.  Bullock earned her undergraduate degree from Agnes Scott College and went on to earn her master's degree and doctorate in Chinese history from Stanford University .  She and her husband, George, have two grown children.
