ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments.
Board of Corrections
Avery T. “Tom” Salter, Jr., 63, Jonesboro , GA , Thirteenth Congressional District Representative - Salter is an attorney currently engaged as a sole practitioner. Previously, he was a full partner/shareholder in the law firm of Crews, Salter & Gisler, P.C. He is a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the American Legion, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and a lifetime member and legal advisor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the United States Army for over 20 years and retired as a Major. Salter earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Tampa and a law degree from the John Marshall School of Law. He and his wife, Jenny, have three grown children and survive one daughter.
State Board of Technical and Adult Education
Larry G. Snellgrove, 57, Warner Robins , GA , At Large Representative - Snellgrove is the owner of Snellgrove Construction Company, a developing and contracting company. He is the current chairman of the City of Warner Robins Development Authority , chairman of the Houston County Development Authority and chairman of the Middle Georgia Technical College board of directors. In 2005, he was honored with the “Charlie L. Jones Memorial Award” from the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce. Snellgrove earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia . He and his wife, Debbie, have two children and four grandchildren.
Ben J. Tarbutton, Jr., 75, Sandersville , GA , Reappointment - Tarbutton is the vice president of the Sandersville Railroad Company. He is the chairman of the board for the B-H Transfer Company, past president and current member of the board of directors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, emeritus trustee at Emory University and former trustee at Wesleyan College . He served in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Tarbutton earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Emory University . He and his wife, Nancy , have three grown children.

William "Bill" H. Bozarth, 62, Atlanta , GA , At Large Member - In addition to being self-employed, Bozarth serves as the executive director of Common Cause Georgia , a position he has held since 2002. Previously, he worked with the IBM Corporation for over 25 years. He is a member of the board of directors for the Garden Hills Civic Association. Bozarth earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Columbia University . He and his wife, Judy, have four children.
E. Trenton “Trent” Brown, III, 31, Eatonton , GA , Member - Brown owns a general practice law firm focusing on real estate, corporate, state planning and probate law. He is the current vice president of the Ocmulgee Bar Association, a member of the Greene-Putnam Rotary Club and a former executive board member of the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce. Brown earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Mercer University .
Robert "Rob" W. Doll, 57, Columbus , GA , Member - Doll is the owner, president, and chief executive officer of Doll & Doll Motors and Rob Doll Nissan. He is a member of the Columbus Technical College Foundation Board and treasurer of the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation. He is president of the Columbus Auto Dealers Association, a member of the Columbus Rotary Club and the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Doll earned a bachelor's degree in criminology from Florida State University and a master's degree in public administration from Troy State University . He and his wife, Sissy, have three children.
William "Bill" P. Loughrey, 54, Alpharetta , GA , Member - Loughrey is the manager of Loughrey and Associates where he serves as a consultant. Previously, he served as the director of governmental affairs for Scientific-Atlanta. He is a member of the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority Board of Trustees and the First Church of Christian Science of Roswell Board of Directors. Loughrey earned a bachelor's degree from Haverford College . He and his wife, Phoebe, have two children.
J. Edward "Eddie" Lumsden, 54, Rome , GA , Member - Lumsden is currently a small business owner and State Farm Insurance agent. He spent over 25 years with the Georgia State Patrol, retiring as Master Trooper. He is a member and past president of the Armuchee Ruritans and a member of the Rome-Floyd Chamber of Commerce, the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Board of Realtors. Lumsden earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Berry College . He and his wife, Teresa, have one daughter, survive one daughter and have one granddaughter.
Mark V. Smith, 49, Savannah , GA , Member - Smith is the owner of Mulberry Inn and South Atlantic Utilities where he serves as managing hotel partner and chief executive officer, respectively. Smith is the chairman of the Savannah International Convention Center , member of the Historic Savannah Foundation Board, former chairman of the Savannah Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau and former trustee of the Coastal Heritage Society. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Kim, have two children.
L. Anthony Waters, 46, Statesboro , GA , Member - Waters is the co-owner of L.A. Waters Furniture, a family company, where he has worked full time for over 20 years. He is the president-elect of the Statesboro Rotary Club and the vice chairman of the Georgia Retail Association. In addition, he serves on the boards of the First Southern National Bank and the Joseph Home for Boys. Walters earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Georgia Southern University. He and his wife, Sally, have two children.
