ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement regarding the Base Realignment and Closure Commission's (BRAC) regional hearing held today in Atlanta at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center .
“Today we testified before the BRAC Commissioners to illustrate Georgia 's deep commitment to support our troops and military families. Georgia has a strong, proud history of military tradition. Along with our state's elected leaders, representatives of our base communities provided important facts that will cause the BRAC Commissioners to take a hard look at whether to close any of Georgia 's military bases. We will continue working to demonstrate the important role that Fort Gillem , Fort McPherson , the Naval Air Station Atlanta and the Navy Supply School in Athens play in the war on terror and key military missions around the world.”
Joining Governor Perdue at today's regional hearing were Senator Saxby Chambliss, Senator Johnny Isakson, Congressman John Barrow, Congressman Phil Gingrey, Congressman Jack Kingston, Congressman John Lewis, Congressman David Scott and Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. Representatives from Alabama and Tennessee also testified before the BRAC Commissioners.
