ATLANTA – Today Admiral Harold W. Gehman, Jr., (USN, Ret), a commissioner of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission, visited the Naval Air Station in Marietta to gather information and receive a briefing by base personnel. Later today Admiral Gehman will continue on to Athens for a visit to the Naval Supply Corps School. Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement regarding the Admiral's visit:
“The state of Georgia remains ready to support its communities and defend those bases recommended for closure. I am pleased that Admiral Gehman visited Georgia today to see first hand the contribution that NAS Atlanta and the Navy Supply Corps School make to our nation's security. Together, side-by-side with the communities that will be affected by potential base closures, we will make the case to keep all Georgia bases intact.”
