Perdue Appoints New Chair of Latino Commission for a New Georgia

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the appointment of Mario Martinez as Chair of the Latino Commission for a New Georgia.  Charles Asensio resigned from the Commission due to relocating out of the state.  

“I commend Charles Asensio for his efforts guiding the Latino Commission for a New Georgia since its inception,” said Governor Sonny Perdue.  “I look forward to the leadership that Mario Martinez will now provide in directing the important work of the Commission.”

            The Commission was formed in July 2003 to work with community organizations, local governments, and private businesses on behalf of the Governor.  The consulting function of the Commission provides valuable insight to policy making in areas such as healthcare, economic opportunity and education.

A brief biography is provided below.

Mario Martinez, 51, Alpharetta , Georgia – Martinez has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneurial manager in medical device and equipment companies and currently serves as president and CEO of Tecnix, LLC, a technology advisory firm.  Prior to Tecnix, he held corporate officer, senior management and key engineering positions with 2C Optics, Biofield, EP Technologies, Cordis and Ohmeda.  He received his bachelor's degree from Florida International University .  Martinez is a graduate of the Emory University Mini Medical School , the Goldratt Institute, the Covey Leadership Center and Leadership Miami.  He is certified as a systems integrator by the Institute of Industrial Engineers .  Martinez holds several patents and has published a number of papers on leadership, management and Latino issues.  Martinez has served as scoutmaster for a minority Boy Scout troop in Roswell , Georgia and as a board member for the Atlanta Area Boy Scout Council's Hispanic Committee.  Martinez and his wife, Miriam, have been married for 26 years and have two children.
