Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments:

State Board of Podiatry Examiners

Judith Gaultney Sanders, 54, Warner Robins, GA, Consumer Member – Sanders serves as office manager for Southeastern Telephone Systems, Inc. She is president of the Pilot Club of Perry and a member of the Perry Club Council. She attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Macon Hospital School of Medical Technology. Sanders and her husband, Danny, have 3 children, two grandchildren and one on the way.

State Board of Physical Therapy

John L. Cowherd, 57, Jonesboro, GA, Consumer Member – Cowherd serves as managing director of research for Windward Capital Advisors. He previously served as senior flight training planner, pilot crew scheduler, station agent and transportation agent for Delta Airlines, Inc. Cowherd is a member of the Jonesboro Historical Society, the Cherokee Rose Sporting Club and the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He attended Clayton State University and Georgia Southwestern College. Cowherd has four children.

State Board of Barbers

Charles W. Manning, Sr., 83, Dublin, GA, Consumer Member – Manning is the Senior Magistrate for the Laurens County Magistrate Court. He is a community volunteer working with WINGS (Women in Need of God's Shelter), the Hospice of Laurens County and the Senior Citizens Center of Laurens County. Manning is chairman of the Community Action Agency and serves as an elder in the Washington Street Presbyterian Church. He graduated with a master’s degree in psychology from New York University and completed advanced coursework in education and supervision at the University of Indiana and Hampton University. Manning survives his wife and has three children.

Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers

Hugh Jeffery “Jeff” Treadway, 44, Forsyth, GA, Consumer Member – Treadway is a teacher and coach at Stratford Academy in Macon. He is a member of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association and Ducks Unlimited. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia. Treadway and his wife, Mollye, have two children.

Georgia Board of Dentistry

Peter S. Trager, 61, Marietta, GA, Northwestern District Member (REAPPOINTMENT) – Trager is a dentist in solo general practice. He also serves as a staff member at Wellstar Windy Hill Hospital. He serves as president of the Georgia Board of Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Northwestern District Dental Society, the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society, the Southern Regional Testing Agency, the American Association of Dental Examiners, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Washington & Lee University and a doctorate of dental surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Trager and his wife, Carolyn, have one daughter.

Thomas P. Godfrey, 36, Atlanta, GA, Northern District Member – Godfrey is a dentist in solo general practice. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Northern District Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry and the American College of Forensic Examiners. Godfrey is a life member of the Georgia Tennis Association, the Southern Tennis Association and the United States Tennis Association. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Emory University and a doctorate of dental medicine from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Godfrey is married to Kelly Stewart Godfrey.

Georgia Board of Nursing

Karen Kennickell Wessinger, 57, Savannah, GA, Consumer Member (REAPPOINTMENT) – Wessinger is as an account manager for Kennickell Print and Communications. She serves as team captain for the resource development campaign for the Savannah Chamber of Commerce. Wessinger has served Savannah Memorial Health University Medical Center in several volunteer capacities including co-chairman of the fundraising committee for The Rehabilitation Institute and project chairman of the One Hundred Club of the Backus Children's Hospital. She is former treasurer and member of the board of directors of Parent and Child Development of Savannah. Wessinger is a member of the altar guild of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. Wessinger and her husband, William, have two children.
