ATLANTA, GA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today following the State of Georgia’s 22nd Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Tribute Program, held this morning in the North Wing of the State Capitol:
“As Georgians, we take pride in Dr. King’s legacy, because it is a part of our state’s history. I believe that gives us a special obligation to carry forward his commitment to service.
“We remember Dr. King as a peacemaker, and as a powerful leader for social change. Today he and his beloved wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, are deeply missed, but they have been reunited in Heaven.
“And our nation is fortunate to have been blessed by their work.”
