JEKYLL ISLAND – First Lady Mary Perdue praised the work of adoptive and foster parents from across the state today at the Adoptive and Foster Parent Annual Conference (AFPAC). At the 33rd annual conference, the First Lady also touted her plans to organize a new Foster Family Foundation of Georgia, an independent, non-profit organization. This group will work towards increasing the number of available foster parents, strengthen training for foster parents and increase retention of foster homes.
"I’m so proud of the hard work and improvements that have been made in Georgia’s foster care program," said First Lady Mary Perdue. "Foster parents are the backbone of our child welfare system and because of all their efforts, our foster children are receiving better care and living better lives."
AFPAC meets annually to provide foster and adoptive parents in Georgia with information regarding challenges they face when caring for abused and neglected children. The conference also provides training for current and prospective foster and adoptive parents to be successful parents to our most vulnerable children.
