ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments. Brief biographies are provided below:
Board of Commissioners of the Georgia Student Finance Commission
Donald “Don” D. Howard, 63, Canton, 6th Congressional District – Howard is the president, chairman, and chief executive officer of the Bank of North Georgia. He serves as chairman of the board at North Fulton Hospital, member of the board of trustees at Georgia Southern University, secretary and treasurer of the North Fulton Community Improvement District, and member of the Reinhardt College Board of Trustees. Howard earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and is a graduate of the Georgia Banking School and the School of Banking of the South. He and his wife, Teri, have three children and three grandchildren.
Board of Corrections
Henrie M. Treadwell, Ph. D., 64, Mableton – Treadwell is director and senior social scientist for Community Voices. She is also a research professor in the Department of Community Health and Preventative Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine. She is the founder of the Freedom’s Voice Symposium and the Soledad O’Brien Freedom’s Voice Award. She belongs to the American Public Health Association, the High Museum of Art, and Project Open Hand. She is a member of the Leadership Atlanta Fellowship Class of 2006. Treadwell earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree from Boston University, a PhD at Atlanta University and completed postdoctoral work at Harvard University. She has three children and two grandchildren.
County & Municipal Probation Advisory Council
David G. Hamil, 55, Rocky Face – Hamil is director of the City of Dalton Probation Department and is an administrator of the City of Dalton Municipal Court. Hamil previously served as a probation officer and court services supervisor for the City of LaGrange. He is currently a member of the Georgia Municipal Court Clerk’s Cooperative Authority, Georgia Council of Court Administrators, and the Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police. Hamil has a Basic Law Enforcement Certification and a Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Chief Executive Certification. He is married to Beverly Hamil.
Kenneth L. Turner, 76, Gordon – Turner is the Mayor of the city of Gordon. He is an advisory board member of the American Red Cross and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Heart of Georgia Technical School. He previously served as a member of the Gordon Better Hometown – Wilkinson Exchange and the Club Advisory Board Georgia Emergency Agency. He served on the Hebzibah City Council as well as the Gordon City Council. Turner attended Brewton-Parker College, Mercer University and received training at Western Michigan University. He and his wife, Jean, have three children and two grandchildren.
Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame Board
Ronald “Ron” R. Alexander, 68, Griffin – Alexander is the owner of Accessory Overhal Group, co-owner of Barnstormer’s Grill. He is the founder and director of the Candler Field Museum, and is the founder of Atlanta Aerospace Composites. He is a retired Delta Airlines pilot, founder of Alexander Aeroplane Company and the SportsAir Workshops. He served in Vietnam for one year and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals. Alexander earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He is married to Regina Alexander and has two children from a previous marriage.
General Alfred G. Hansen, 77, Marietta – Hansen is a retired United States Air Force four star general and served as a primary member of the Air Force Board. He is a past director of logistics and organization for the Joints Chief of Staffs, as well as a former senior executive with Lockheed Martin and the chief executive officer and president of EMS Technologies. He served on the Junior Achievement board and was chairman of the Georgia Museum of Aviation. Hansen earned a bachelor’s degree from Air War College. He and his wife, Donna, have four children.
William “Billy” E. Mayher, III, M.D., 71, Albany – Mayher is a retired neurosurgeon. He is a past staff member and former chief of staff of the Palmyra Medical Centers in Albany. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Palmyra Medical Centers and is a member of the Georgia Neurological Society and the Georgia Surgical Society. Mayher earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He and his wife, Jo Anne, have three children and four grandchildren.
Richard G. McSpadden, Jr., 50, Bogart – McSpadden is the director of U.S. Air Force at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services. He is a past director of strategy and business development within Hewlett-Packard Company’s U.S. Public Sector. He served over twenty years in the U.S. Air Force as commander and flight leader of the U.S. Thunderbirds flight demonstration team. He serves on the board of directors of the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins. McSpadden earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Georgia and a master’s degree from Troy University. He and he wife, Judy, have two children.
Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Family and Marriage Therapists
Benajah “Ben” P. Marion, 58, Moultrie, Social Worker – Marion is CEO of Universal Health Services, Turning Point Hospital. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Georgia Alliance for Children’s Hall County Chapter, and the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. He is director of Head Start Mental Health Outpatient Services and is a member of the Moultrie YMCA. He served as a member of the United Way of Colquitt County and the Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce. Marion earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from The University of Georgia. He and his wife, Jennifer, have four children and four grandchildren.

R. Edward “Ed” Perkins, 61, Watkinsville – Perkins is principal of Coventry Consulting. He is a past international vice president for Johnson & Johnson and past president of Noramco of Johnson & Johnson. He is a director of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Bio and United Way of Northeast Georgia as well as president of St. Mary’s Health Care System Foundation. Perkins earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He and his wife, Janice, have two children.
Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission
Lawrence “Larry” H. Ritchie, 63, Marietta, 6th Congressional District – Ritchie is owner and president of Aqua One Enterprises, Inc and president of Viper Solutions. He is past chief operating officer of the Private Duty in Home Nursing Care Provider and past director of EH Inc. DBA Medix School. He is the founder and former CEO of Herzing Institutes Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and past president of L.H. Ritchie Insurance Brokerage. Ritchie earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology. He has one child.
A. Lois Sealy, 70, Lizella, 8th Congressional District – Sealy is a retired Atlanta Public School System Administrator. She served as an educational standards specialist for Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and a school improvement specialist for the Georgia Department of Education and the Middle Georgia RESA. She was selected and participated in the Governor’s School Leadership Institute. Sealy earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University, a master’s degree from University of Georgia, and a specialist degree from Georgia State University. She is married to Dr. Ben Sealy.
Ronald “Ron” L. Swofford, Ed. D., 67, Rex, 13th Congressional District – Swofford is a retired academic dean at Georgia Perimeter College. He was elected as the first president of the Georgia Perimeter College Retiree Association, received the DeKalb College Outstanding Award for Leadership and a Georgia Governor’s Award in the Humanities. He is a member of the Rotary Club of South DeKalb and Community College Humanities Association. Swofford earned a bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina, a master’s and specialist degree from Appalachian State University and a doctorate of education degree from Auburn University. He and his wife, Joyce, have four children.
