ATLANTA  Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that MAGE SOLAR GMBH, a Ravensburg, Germany-based manufacturer of solar energy products, will locate its North American headquarters in Dublin in Laurens County. A division of parent company MAGE GROUP, the company markets high-grade photovoltaic modules, high-performance branded inverters, and mounting systems used in the solar energy industry.  This project represents a $30 million investment, and will create 350 jobs over five years.

“We are pleased to welcome MAGE SOLAR to Georgia as we celebrate another headquarters coming to our state. Mage gives us the opportunity to expand our leadership position and industry competitiveness in the renewable energy sector,” said Governor Perdue. “The growth of renewable energy is important to our state and nation, so I believe MAGE SOLAR will be successful for years to come in Dublin.”

The MAGE SOLAR Laurens County operation will also serve as a manufacturing facility for solar panels, making it the only manufacturer of its kind in Georgia. The facility will include a division for engineering and integration solutions for solar parks and building installations.  In addition to the manufacturing facility and headquarters, the company also plans to build an academy for solar education.

“We are certain that we have found the perfect home for our company based on the excellent infrastructure, impressive workforce known for its productivity, integrity and skill, as well as a keenly business oriented leadership, who during the whole process also never lost focus of what is best for the future of Georgia, Laurens County and the City of Dublin,” said Norbert Philipp, CEO of MAGE SOLAR GMBH.

Laurens County, one of Georgia’s inaugural Certified Work Ready Communities of Excellence, is a strategic location for MAGE SOLAR’s business in Georgia as a result of the county’s pipeline of skilled talent for these types of operations. The Georgia Work Ready program works with counties throughout Georgia to ensure that the state’s workforce remains a primary competitive advantage.

“We are excited to partner with our new friends at MAGE SOLAR and help them achieve the highest levels of success in the solar panel industry. This company will provide immediate job opportunities for many of our citizens who have personally experienced this tough economy,” said Guy Cochran, Dublin/Laurens Development Authority chairman. “Additionally, we are deeply appreciative for the astute leadership of Governor Perdue who keeps Georgia competitive in attracting international business opportunities for its communities.”

“On behalf of the people of this community in Laurens County, I am pleased to welcome MAGE SOLAR to Georgia,” said State Senator Ross Tolleson. “This project is the culmination of a collective effort to continue the significant growth of the solar energy industry in our state, ultimately creating meaningful job opportunities for Georgians in Dublin and surrounding areas.”

Georgia’s nationally recognized Quick Start workforce training program will assist MAGE SOLAR’s manufacturing operation in preparing new hires for work at the Dublin facility.  Quick Start provides customized workforce training free-of-charge as an incentive for companies to create new jobs in Georgia.

MAGE SOLAR’s presence in Georgia also supports the state’s emerging strength in the cleantech energy sector, which operates based on principles of resource efficiency and is setting new paradigms in energy conservation through solar and wind energy.   Georgia is also home to a Center of Excellence for Photovoltaics Research and Education in Atlanta at Georgia Tech, one of only two centers in the country. Today that center is conducting groundbreaking research that makes Georgia Tech a leading contender in the search for clean, renewable energy sources.

Glen Whitley, Georgia Department of Economic Development statewide project manager, assisted the company with this project.
