Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA  Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.  Brief biographies are provided below:

Advisory Council for Public Health

Charles J. Hardy, Ph.D., 54, Statesboro – Hardy is a professor and the founding dean of Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University. His professional affiliations have included the American Psychological Association, both the American and the Georgia Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and both the American and Georgia Public Health Association. He is the chairman of the Administrative Committee on Public Health for the University System of Georgia, and he was named a 2009 Distinguished Educator/Researcher by the Georgia Rural Health Association. Hardy earned a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University, a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee, and a doctoral degree from Louisiana State University. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina. He and his wife, Rebecca, have two children.

 

Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities

W. Gregory Haynes, 60, Atlanta – Haynes is senior vice president of industrial properties for CB Richard Ellis, Inc. He is a member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors and the Society of Industrial & Office Realtors, of which he is past chapter president. He is also a member of CB Ellis Special Properties Group and the State Bar of Georgia. Haynes earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law. He and his wife, Nora, have four children.

 

Board of Community Affairs

Jeffrey W. Brown, 69, LaGrange, Third Congressional District Representative – Brown is the president of Comprehensive Search. He is a member of Rotary International and serves on the board of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute. He served as a Georgia State Representative from 1994-2007 and is a member of the LaGrange Industrial Development Authority, Hi Tech Task Force, West Point Lake Advisory Committee and West Georgia Technical College Foundation. He is a graduate of the Leadership Institute at the University of Georgia. Brown earned a bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College and a master’s degree from Temple University. He and his wife, Shirley, have one child and one grandchild.

 

Board of the Georgia County Leadership Academy

Katherine “Nisi” N. Zell, 64, Woodbine – Zell retired as a full professor in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at the College of Coastal Georgia and currently assists the new faculty with the program.  She serves as a Camden County Commissioner, representing District 2.  She previously served as paper reviewer and site visitor for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and was on the Phlebotomy Review Committee and Program Review Committee.  Zell earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a specialist’s degree from Georgia Southern University. She and her husband, Richard Blount, have two children and four grandchildren.

 

Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians

Page G. Love, 45, Atlanta, Dietitian At-Large Member – Love is president and owner of Nutrifit, Nutrisport, and Nutritherapy Consulting, Inc. She is also a consultant with the Gatorade Sports Nutrition Advisory Board, the WTA International Women’s Professional Tour, and the Atlanta Braves. She is a member and registered dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and is certified specialist in sports dietetics. She also serves on the board for Eating Disorders Information Network, a local non-profit. Love earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree from Georgia State University. She and her husband, Iztok Bombač, have two children.

 

Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel

C. LaTain “Tain” Kell, Sr., 48, Marietta, Superior Court Judge Representative – Kell is a Judge for the Superior Court of Cobb County. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Cobb County Bar Association. He is a member of the board of MUST Ministries, a member of Marietta Kiwanis and the Christian Lawyers Fellowship, and a past member of the board of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. He is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Cobb. Kell earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Sheri, have one child.

 

Beverly R. Losman, 55, Atlanta, Injury Prevention Organization Representative – Losman is director of Safe Kids Georgia at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  She has over twenty years of non-profit management experience.  She previously served as executive director of the Atlanta chapter of Starlight Children’s Foundation, director of the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities, and as executive director of the Cultural Affairs department of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce where she helped to develop the Metro Atlanta Arts Fund.  She is an alumna of Leadership Atlanta.  Losman earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University.  She and her husband, Larry Melnick, have one child.

 

Georgia Board for Physician Workforce

Frank L. Carter, M.D., 50, Waynesboro – Carter is a physician and partner with Medical Specialists. He is a member and immediate past chairman of the Georgia 4-H Foundation. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He previously served on the Georgia Perinatal Task Force and the Council on Maternal and Infant Health. Carter earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State College, a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and completed both his residency and fellowship at The Medical Center – Columbus, Georgia. He and his wife, Christy, have two children.

 

Georgia Composite Medical Board

Rhonda W. Kunes, 56, Tifton, Public Member – Kunes is a self-employed freelance court reporter. She was named Outstanding Georgia Citizen & Goodwill Ambassador to Georgia by the Secretary of State in 1995 and previously served on the Composite Medical Board for six years. Kunes attended Abraham Baldwin College and earned her Georgia Court Reporter Certification in 1982. She is married to Joe Kunes and has one child, two step-children, and two grandchildren.

 

GeorgiaPublic Service Commission Advisory Committee

Kirk A. Walker, 44, Lizella, Excavator Representative – Walker is a project manager with John R. Walker, Inc. He holds his utility foreman’s license and utility manager’s license in Georgia, as well as his utility contractor’s license in North and South Carolina. He is also a member of the Georgia Utility Contractor’s Association. Walker earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. He and his wife, Carmen, have three children and one grandchild.

 

State Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Dispensers

Deborah “Debbie” A. Brilling, 51, Atlanta, Public Member – Brilling is the chief executive officer of Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc. She is a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, the Alexander Graham Bell Association, and the UNHSI stakeholders committee. She is also a member of the Northlake-Tucker Kiwanis Club and the Bionic Ear Association with Advanced Bionics. Brilling earned a bachelor’s degree from Berry College. She has two children.

 

State Board of Nursing Home Administrators

Carol A. Roberson, 32, Mineral Bluff, RN Representative – Roberson is the director of clinical care management services for United Clinical Services. She is the quality chairperson for the Georgia Health Care Association SOURCE Committee and is a member of Case Management Society of America. Roberson earned a nursing degree from Cleveland State College. She and her husband, Monty, have two children.

 

State Board of Registration for Foresters

Leonard L. Kinsley, 75, Perry – Kinsley is the owner of Fall Line Forest Management. He is a member of the Georgia Forestry Association and serves on the board of directors of the Houston County Farm Bureau, of which he is also past president. He is a former member and past chairman of the Georgia Farm Bureau Forestry Commodity Committee, during which time he also served on the American Farm Bureau Forestry Commodity Committee. Kinsley served in the U.S. Navy, and after being honorably discharged, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. He and his wife, Hatsie, have two children and ten grandchildren.
