Governor Issues Writs of Election for House, Senate Seat

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that he has issued writs of special election to fill the vacancies in House District 12 and Senate District 49.   House District 12 has become vacant due to the resignation of Representative Tom Graves.   Senate District 49 has become vacant due to the resignation of Senator Lee Hawkins.  Graves and Hawkins submitted their resignation letters on Tuesday, effective immediately.

The special elections to fill the vacancies will be held April 27, 2010. These elections will be held in conjunction with the special election to fill the 9th Congressional District vacancy created by the resignation of Congressman Nathan Deal.

Qualifying dates will be set by the Secretary of State’s office. Below is the writ of election for House District 12:

House District 12 has become vacant due to the resignation of Representative Tom Graves.

 

Therefore, pursuant to Article V, Section II, Paragraph VIII of the Constitution of the State of Georgia and Section 21-2-544 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, a Writ of Election is hereby issued to the Secretary of State for a special election to be held on April 27, 2010, to fill the temporary vacancy in District 12 of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Below is the writ of election for Senate District 49:

 

Senate District 49 has become vacant due to the resignation of Senator Lee Hawkins.

 

Therefore, pursuant to Article V, Section II, Paragraph VIII of the Constitution of the State of Georgia and Section 21-2-544 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, a Writ of Election is hereby issued to the Secretary of State for a special election to be held on April 27, 2010, to fill the temporary vacancy in District 49 of the Georgia State Senate.
