ATLANTA—Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue today announced that Novelis, Inc., a world leader in the production of flat-rolled aluminum products, will relocate its North American headquarters from Cleveland, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia.  This move will add 80 corporate jobs, with Novelis’ Atlanta staff to include 220 people by the end of 2010 when combined with other expected staff additions.  Atlanta was already home to the company’s world headquarters, which located to Georgia in 2005.

“The Novelis headquarters’ consolidation is a testament to the benefits of Georgia’s pro-business environment,” said Governor Perdue.  “I’m pleased to welcome the Novelis North American headquarters to Georgia.”

Novelis is the world leader in aluminum rolling, producing an estimated 19 percent of the world's flat-rolled aluminum products.  The company is also a global leader in aluminum can recycling, and currently has about 12,000 employees in 11 countries spanning four continents.   The Novelis North American headquarters relocation to Atlanta is the latest in a series of steps the company has taken over the past year designed to realign its global operations, consolidate corporate functions, enhance organizational effectiveness, increase efficiencies and reduce costs.

“The move of our North American headquarters to Atlanta will not only streamline our processes, but will also better align the North American business group with the global corporate center and vice versa,” said Philip Martens, president and chief operating officer of Novelis.  “North America is one of our biggest markets, and it just makes good business sense to consolidate these operations at our Atlanta-based corporate headquarters.”

Customers served by Novelis include major brands such as Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Busch, Ford, General Motors, Lotte Aluminum, Kodak and ThyssenKrupp, among others.  The company is the leading producer of aluminum rolled products in Europe and South America, and the second leading producer in both North America and Asia.

“In 2005 when Novelis selected Atlanta for its world headquarters, we looked forward to seeing the company grow and increase its presence here,” said Hans Gant, senior vice of economic development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “This consolidation accomplishes that goal, and validates that Atlanta continues to be a great location for headquarters, in particular headquarters for multinational companies.”

“We’re delighted that we could help entice Novelis to expand its Atlanta headquarters. We look forward to a long-term relationship with the company as it continues to grow,” said Gregg Simon, manager of business engagement for ADA. ”Novelis is a wonderful corporate citizen, and its decision highlights the positive business climate offered in the city of Atlanta.”

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) partnered with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Development Authority on this project.  GDEcD statewide project manager Blair Lewis assisted the company with this relocation.
