ATLANTA – Governor and First Lady Perdue hosted a tree lighting ceremony Sunday evening at the Governor’s Mansion, an annual tradition that jump starts the Mansion’s holiday touring season.

“Mary and I would like to invite all Georgians to help us celebrate the Christmas season with a visit to the Governor’s Mansion,” said Governor Perdue. “We are honored to have some of Georgia’s most talented designers share their creative talent in the themed rooms at the Mansion.”

This year’s decoration theme includes “The Colors of Christmas,” which depict the vibrant hues and spirit of the season. The Mansion also includes a “Candy Land” in the state dining room, featuring gumdrop trees and a gingerbread house. The tour also hosts performances from musical groups from across the state, including the Parkview High School Chorus, Cantare Youth Choir of Atlanta and Campbell Middle School Chamber Ensemble. A full list of performances is below.

Tours featuring the holiday-themed decorations at the Governor’s Mansion will be held Dec. 7 through Dec. 18.   The Monday through Friday schedule is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays tours are available from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Governor Perdue also encourages Georgians to visit the Georgia Governor’s Mansion website at www.mansion.georgia.gov, which features information on public tours, photos, monthly recipe cards and a history of the mansion. The website is a part of Governor Perdue’s continued focus on customer service, and his commitment to make Georgia state government faster, friendlier and easier. The Georgia Technology Authority hosts the website as a part of Georgia.gov, the state government’s internet portal which provides a single point of access to government information and services.
