ATLANTA – Today Governor Sonny Perdue announced that the following legislation was signed into law. The Governor also issued a signing statement for Senate Bill 168. For more information on this legislation, please visit www.legis.state.ga.us.
Signing Statement Regarding SB 168:
“I signed Senate Bill 168 because I believe it improves the process for insuring that members of the General Assembly comply with the Article II, Section II, Paragraph III of the Constitution of the State of Georgia. A provision of Senate Bill 168 provides that the State Ethics Commission shall adopt those rules and regulations that are specifically authorized by Chapter 5 of Title 21. I do not believe that such provision nullifies previous, properly promulgated rules of the State Ethics Commission, and my signing of this legislation should not, in and of itself, be interpreted as rendering void any past rules lawfully promulgated by the State Ethics Commission.”
