Texas Governor Rick Perry Fulfills Conditions of Little League Bet

AUSTIN, Tx. — True to his word, Governor Rick Perry of Texas sportingly hung the Georgia State Flag today in the rotunda of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas. Governor Sonny Perdue of Georgia and Governor Rick Perry of Texas made a friendly wager on the outcome of the Little League World Series U.S. Championship game, played on Saturday August 25, 2007. The home state of the winning team won the honor of having their state flag displayed at the State Capitol for a day in the losing team’s capital city.

“The Little Leaguers from Warner Robins made Georgia very proud by bringing home the U.S. Championship and World Series Championship title, and I commend Governor Perry for remaining true to his word,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “Governor Perry’s love for Texas and sportsmanship was shown through his willingness to participate in our friendly bet.”

The Warner Robins team, representing the Southeastern United States Division, defeated Texas’ Lubbock Western team 5 to 2. After winning the U.S. Championship, the Warner Robins team went on to defeat Japan 3 to 2 to become the Little League World Series champions.
