ATLANTA, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Governor George Busbee:

"Mary and I are greatly saddened by the death of former Governor George Busbee. He devoted eight years of service to this great state as governor and decades more as a member of the General Assembly. He was admired for his low-key leadership, all the while exhibiting a sense of humor and wit that was unmatched. He was a man of integrity with whom I shared a professional and personal relationship. Governor Busbee was a fellow aviator, fisherman and most importantly, my good friend.

"Mary and I extend our condolences to the Busbee family. They will remain in our thoughts and prayers throughout this time of mourning."

Governor Perdue signed an executive order today ordering all state flags lowered to half-staff for a period of mourning beginning immediately and lasting until sunset the day of Governor Busbee's funeral.
